Ricardo Martinez-Guerrero (he/him) is an incoming second-year Political Science and History student attending San Diego City College since 2024. As a latino growing up in the San Diego-Tijuana Metropolitan Area he has witnessed throughout his life the Environmental Racism that lingers in the zones himself, friends and families are victim to. The experience of the Highways and Bridges splitting his neighborhoods, construction of devastating Industries and disregard for the contamination of the Tijuana river are what motivated to take decisive action on Climate Policy. San Diego and by extension Tijuana are regions considered to have perfect year-long climate and rich in natural beauty, properties that he seeks to preserve for the generations to come.

Ricardo is an active member of his Community College, particularly participating in organizations such as Associated Student Government (ASG), Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (M.E.Ch.A), and Hermanos Unidos Brothers United (HUBU). It is through all these participation that he has learned of the unique upbringings of San Diego Citizens and how it is the lingering effects of Zoning and Environmental Racism that systematically placed the people of color he cherishes into regions they are designed to suffer. This is why it is personal to him to work for methods to overcome this horrid destiny.

Ricardo is currently an intern at Casa Familiar, a non-profit organization on which he works and aids on Legal Immigration cases as this is the career pathway he seeks to pursue. Furthermore, it is in Casa Familiar where he has worked in partnership with the San Diego County to knock on neighborhood homes and install Air Purifiers free of charge to combat the disastrous health and environmental effects of Tijuana River Sewage Crisis. Ricardo stands certain that he is only just beginning to act on the pressing issues that damage his community but rests assured that his involvement in the Green Policy Initiative will only push him to reach a better future for his people.
