Samiy Castillo Bolivar, Communications & Media Director
Samiy (he/him) is a Bolivian-Peruvian international second-year Economics, Law & Public Policy, and Journalism major at Fullerton College. As recently elected Student Trustee and 2024-2025 Senator of the Year of Fullerton College's Associated Students, Samiy has advocated for re-evaluation of policies in regards to campus safety, reinstatement of non-resident tuition payment plans, and improvement and implementation of more inclusive cafeteria meal options. He has experience organizing campus club events and fundraising initiatives, having negotiated with local Fullerton businesses to secure sponsorships. He works on campus with the international student program, where he processes hundreds of international student applications and guides and supports current students with campus engagement.
His communications and journalism experiences include being his school paper's arts and culture editor and writer, where he helped manage and guide a team of staff reporters to write stories about on- and off-campus events with artists, performers, and cultural organizations. His past experiences also include working as a customer service and medical service interpreter for several American and Californian governmental, financial, business, educational, and medical healthcare providers. Beyond his campus, he volunteers as a social media manager for a local paper, The Fullerton Observer.
Samiy's indigenous background guides his perspective and passion around environmental advocacy. Connecting with and respecting nature is something he was taught at a young age, and a practice he continues through his weekly outdoor hikes and runs. As part of the Green Policy Initiative, he hopes to raise awareness among all levels of local, state, federal, and international environmental advocacy movements and increase student engagement in such issues, including environmental justice.
